A 22-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in the driver's seat of his car early Sunday, September 14, in Chicago's Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago police.

What Happened

The shooting occurred at approximately 4 a.m. to 5:58 a.m. (reports vary slightly on the exact time) in the 4200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, at a BP gas station. According to a preliminary Chicago Police Department report, the victim was seated in the driver's seat of a white 2019 Tesla when two vehicles — a black Acura sedan and a silver Honda Accord — pulled up alongside him. Gunmen from both vehicles opened fire, discharging more than 50 rounds in the attack. The man was struck in the chest and shoulder and was pronounced dead at the scene.

How the Shooters Fled

According to CWB Chicago, the ambush involved six gunmen across the two vehicles. An officer who reviewed surveillance footage said four of the shooters wore all-black clothing, one wore a green hoodie, and another wore a black hoodie. The gunmen fled the scene in both vehicles, heading onto the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway. As of Sunday, no arrests had been made, and police had not released a motive.

A Gun Recovered From the Victim

A law enforcement source told CWB Chicago that a firearm was recovered from the victim following the shooting, though it remains unclear what role, if any, that weapon played in the incident.

Victim Identified by Sources as Rising Drill Rapper

While Chicago police have not officially confirmed the victim's identity in public statements, multiple outlets citing dispatch audio and law enforcement sources identified the man as Mikquale Cooper, known professionally as Chicago drill rapper BloodHound Q50. Cooper had recently released an album titled "Get Back or Die Trying" on his 22nd birthday last month, which featured collaborator Bloodhound Lil Jeff, who was killed the previous year. Cooper had performed at the Rolling Loud festival in Orlando this year, where he paid tribute to his late collaborator. Media personality DJ Vlad, who had interviewed Cooper previously, said he was "the most media-trained young artist he'd talked to." Notably, rumors that the rapper had been killed in St. Louis in August 2025 had previously circulated and turned out to be false, with Cooper posting on social media at the time to confirm he was alive.

Not the First Fatal Shooting on This Block

According to Hoodline, this is not the first fatal shooting on this stretch of Wentworth Avenue this year — a 27-year-old man was killed on the same block on July 6, 2026. The Chicago Police Department's Area One Headquarters, which handles major South Side homicide cases, is located nearby at 5101 S. Wentworth Avenue.

Fuller Park's Crime Context

Fuller Park currently holds an overall crime index reported at 77% above the national average and 56% above the Chicago citywide average, according to data compiled by DoorProfit, reflecting a neighborhood that has continued to see elevated levels of violent crime.

The Investigation

Chicago Police Department Area 1 detectives are handling the homicide investigation, which remains ongoing. Police have not released descriptions of the shooters beyond what surveillance footage showed, nor confirmed whether the victim was specifically targeted or caught in an ambush unrelated to any personal dispute. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Chicago police.

What's Next

With no arrests made and the investigation continuing, key questions remain about the identities of the shooters and the motive behind the ambush. For continuing coverage, see the full CWB Chicago report.
